Negative emotions, frustration and disappointment are the worst for people who are trying to shed pounds. Working hard can sometimes be frustrating especially when you are not seeing the results in the numbers. No your scale isn’t broken. Don’t get down on yourself. Instead of viewing this as a set back look for the other ways to measure progress. Its not always the numbers that matter.
Here are 6 signs of progress outside the scale

Clothing Fits better.

You know that feeling when your jeans are easy to zip up and maybe even a little baggy. Your clothing looks better on and you don’t have to “squeeze” into anything maybe you can even skip the Spanx! Sometimes our body loses inches and not pounds. Paying attention to how things are fitting is always a good tell tale sign that you are improving.

More Energy

One thing I tell my clients that are stuck at a plateau to look for is to pay attention to how they are feeling?  When its 3pm and you haven’t hit that wall, in general your energy levels are higher; you can make it though the day without having to reach for a caffeinated beverage. These are excellent signs of progress that you are on your way to a healthier you.

Less Stress

Your feeling less buggered down by life. Exercising releases endorphins, and those little neurotransmitters is what makes us happy. If you are generally feeling better with more energy and less stress you are doing something right so keep going and don’t get discouraged by those numbers that may not be changing.

Muscle Gains

Weight loss will not always show up on the scale if you are exercising regularly.  Weight training and resistance training will help you lose fat but will also help you gain lean muscle. If you are not seeing numbers move on the scale you may want to have your body fat measured. This will give you a better idea of your fat loss much better than those numbers on the scale.

You’ve changed the way you eat

You may find yourself being more conscious of what you are putting into your body. You say no to the foods that you know are not good for you. The way you have changed your eating patterns is another tell tale sign that you are progressing.  Skipping the fries or extra dinner roll or not snacking while watching tv is a great way to measure the positive changes you are making in your life.

Feeling Good Emotionally

If you have been working hard to achieve your goals. Hopefully, the hard work will come with a boost in self-esteem, confidence, and happiness. Progress always brings happiness so if you generally feeling better about yourself take note. It not always about numbers. If the numbers aren’t moving that doesn’t mean that you’ve hit a plateau. If you feel good about how you look that should hopefully far out-weight anything else.
